Arrest of Kamkoti's Shankaracharya on 11 November 2004

Victim of politics of religion

In all likelihood, it is a ploy by Ms Jayalalithaa to distance herself publicly from the pontiff and his Brahminical legacy. For, herself a Brahmin and a ritualistic one at that, her position remains precarious as leader of the AIDMK, an anti-Brahmin party, that has forlong been feuding with the DMK for supremacy in the Dravidian movement.

When Shankaracharya of Kamkoti, Jayendra Saraswati, was arrested in Mercury-Saturn-Mercury-Saturn-Rahu the ugliest chapter of the religious history of India got written whose author was Jayalalitha, the chief minister of Tamilnadu. Even in the worst days of foreign domination of India by Muslim and Christian powers no Shankaracharya was treated in such a manner as the Tamilnadu government of Jayalalitha has done.

In his horoscope, Mercury the sixth lord is in the sixth house under RK axis and Saturn, retrograde in his own house, is aspected by Venus from the eighth house. It was the pratyantara dasa and sookshma dasha of Mercury and Saturn while the praana dasha was of Rahu in the twelfth house of imprisonment.. Saturn and Mercury both are aspected by Jupiter the twelfth lord for the purposes of this analysis. Thus six-eight and twelfth connect ion is effective. Such periods are known for criminal trials.

In Chara dasha it is the mahadasha of Meena, sixth from Atmakaraka, Jupiter in Tula and the antardasha of Karka which contains Sun the Gnathikaraka. Clearly it is a period of trouble for him.

A rashi dasha which is sixth or eighth from the Atmakaraka can be adverse while Gnathikaraka shows the enemies.

In Yogini dasha, it is Rahu mahadasha in the twelfth house and antardasha of Venus in the eighth house.

In all the three dashas, six, eighth and twelve houses come into play indicating the events which have shaken up many people in India .

Why in Mercury-Saturn ?

Why did this happen in Mercury-Saturn period in the Vimshottari dasha was a question many people asked. Mercury is the sixth lord in the sixth house though he is also the ninth lord. Mercury has to therefore give the results of both houses which it has given already. It is in the Mercury mahadasha, the ninth lord, that he succeeded his guru, Paramacharya Chandrasekhar Saraswati took his samadhi in 1994 or 1995.

As the sixth lord, Mercury has to create its own problems, his battles with enemies which in this case is the combined strength of DMK and AIADMK against him and his mutth which is said to be symbolic of some remnants of Brahmanical traditions in the anti Brahmin, anti-north, anti-Hindi politics of Tamilnadu since the days of Ramaswamy Naicker, Annadurai, M.G.Ramachandran and now Karunanidhi.

Sixth lord's dasha in the last part of life

In hundreds of horoscopes a group of students of the Bharatiya Vidya Bhawan analysed and presented in a seminar on 7 November 2004, it was a unanimous conclusion that if the mahadasha of the sixth lord comes in the last part of one's life, it leads to opposition, sickness and fights with the disadvantage of physical weakness and there is the diminishing of physical stamina, making life difficult. So it is in the case of Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswati in the year 2004. He has high blood pressure and suffers from diabetes.

Why Saturn antardasha ?

The antardasha of Saturn in which all this happened becomes significant in many ways:

a) Saturn is associated with Moon in mrityubhaga .

b) Saturn is the lord of the 64 th navamsha.

  Nakshatra

Those who go by nakshatras can notice that both Saturn and Mercury in whose dasha periods it happened are in the nakshatra of Rahu in the twelfth house.

Transits ( 11 November 2004 )

Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswati was arrested on the night of 11 November 2004 at 10 pm in a way which reminded many Indians of the dark days of National Emergency of 1975 when Indira Gandhi and her son Sanjay Gandhi had committed many atrocities. Political leaders opposing Indira Gandhi were arrested and put in jail, civil liberties were curbed, sterilization drive was launched not with intelligence and persuasion but with the barbarism of middle ages.

Such actions, needless to say, always provoke a harsh comment from males: whether woman known more for impulsive and vindictive decisions is ever fit to be head of any government. No one may have written openly about it but there are unavoidable snide comments about giving to women such top positions when we see repetitions of the excesses of Indira Gandhi's National Emergency of 1975.

Jayalalitha has already shown such tendencies first by coming out with anti-conversion bills, suspending and dismissing many government servants, putting her strongest opponent , Karunanidhi in jail in most dramatic and ludicrous way.

Now approving a similar action against Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswati but withdrawn action against government servants and also the anti-conversion bill.

Saturn was in Karka then in 1975 and it is in Karka again now in 2004.

It is necessary to see that Saturn in transit is over the birth Sun, representing governmental action, is so close in degrees.

Jupiter is in the ninth house from the lagna but eighth from birth Moon. Then as many as four planets, Ketu, Mars, Sun and Moon in Tula on an amavasya day in the tenth house from the lagna and ninth from the birth Moon complete a dismal picture of unfavourable transits.

The unknown area!

What has come out so far in the press is all about the alleged crime of Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswati and there has been no hint even about any mysterious money transactions involved.

Saturn as the second lord with Moon in mrityubhaga , aspected by Venus from the eighth house and Jupiter from the tenth house, shows some money transactions in which top people in the government and in high political power are involved.

To dismiss it as some alleged withdrawal from the bank to pay the accused assasin is to overlook something much more mysterious and unknown to us. If and when such a story comes out, it will have become merely historical.

Outcome ?

I have given my prediction about the outcome of this case to some of his devotees which I will not and cannot reveal here. Enough it is to draw your attention to the beneficient aspect of Jupiter on both the mahadasha lord, Mercury and the antardasha lord , Saturn.

But what is happening is that a revolution is taking place with Saturn in Karka. (see the website for an article on this subject.) Saturn, Rahu-Ketu and Mars are in kendras from each other and in the Indian Independence horoscope it is the dasha periods of Venus-Saturn and Mars/Rahu)

Indian Independence Horoscope “Though we do not have the horoscope of the prime minister of India, Sri Manmohan Singh we can take some help from the national horoscope of India in which there the dasha of Venus-Saturn-Mars from 9 August 2004.

This Mars will pave the way for some major changes at the centre. And being the seventh and twelfth lord, aspecting exactly the twenty second dreshkona, is not an indication of non-violent events. What is being pointed is that , without being alarmists, we should be prepared for some violent events in the second half of the year 2004, particularly in the period from August to November , with possibly September seeing some climax of it all.

To add to it is the chara dasha in which it is going to be Karka-Dhanu from 13 Augustwith all the planets in Karka falling in the eighth house. The violent nature of Dhanu is well known in Jaimini astrology.

But planets are pointing towards disturbance, communal in nature with violence leading to some tragedy and also changes at the top level at the centre.

Karunanidhi suspects "motives" behind seer's arrest

Chennai, Nov. 22. (PTI): Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) president M Karunanidhi today said he suspected "personal vengeance and motives" behind the way in which Kanchi Sankaracharya Jayendra Saraswati was treated after his arrest.

"We have welcomed the arrest of Sankaracharya but now we have come to know that there are certain things behind the arrest. There is personal vengeance on the part of Chief Minister Jayalalithaa," he alleged.

He said the Sankaracharya was arrested only after two and a half months after the temple official Sankararaman was murdered. "What happened in between. Why is the delay. They say it was due to investigation. But on hearing certain facts, doubts have been created," he said.

Asked whether there was a political motive behind the arrest, he said, "there are a lot of personal issues between Jayalalithaa and the Sankaracharya. This should not be forgotten."

PIL in SC seeks CBI probe into

Kanchi seer's arrest

New Delhi , Nov. 22 (PTI): A public interest litigation was filed today in the Supreme Court seeking a CBI probe into the arrest of Kanchi Shankaracharya in a murder case, alleging that the Tamil Nadu police was "showing bias" against the religious leader.

The petition filed by B P Singhal, a BJP Rajya Sabha MP, accused the State police of implicating the seer in the murder case and sought transfer of the case to another State, his counsel Harsh Vir Pratap Sharma, said.

Sharma said that the manner in which the Seer was arrested indicated violation of several guidelines laid down by the Supreme Court in the D K Basu case.

The petition is likely to be mentioned before the Supreme Court tomorrow morning, Singhal's counsel said.

The Brahmanical stranglehold

November 22, 2004

... It now transpires that very little of these grave charges can be substantiated. In fact, the police have not even submitted their preliminary evidence to court. You would have imagined that the authorities would have proceeded against a person as revered as the Shankaracharya on the strength of watertight evidence. But no, they arrested him and humiliated him on the basis of suspicion.

The reasons lie in the vagaries of Dravidian politics, particularly the competitive inclination to invoke anti-Brahmin sentiment. Let us not forget that the DMK had threatened an agitation against the state government if it did not proceed against the Kanchi seer.

Karunanidhi was, in effect, daring the Brahmin Jayalalithaa to take action against the Brahmin Shankaracharya. For him, this was just another handle to beat Jayalalithaa with. By ensuring the Shankaracharya was booked, regardless of the evidence, Jayalalithaa has at least ensured that Karunanidhi can no longer charge her of having a Brahminical bias.

Accused in Kanchi case recants

November 24, 2004 20:17 IST

... In a twist to the investigation into the Sankararaman murder case, in which Kanchi Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswati has been arrested, one of the five key accused on Wednesday did a turnaround, saying all his earlier statements were made under "duress". Kathiravan told a remand court in Kanchipuram that the police tortured him right from November 3, the day he was arrested.

TAccording to the prosecution, the seer was arrested following information provided by Kathiravan and another accused, Rejini alias Chinna, both arrested on November 9. Kathiravan had made an in-camera statement under Section 164 of Criminal Procedure Code before another magistrate court on November 19.

Kathiravan and Chinna were produced before Judicial Magistrate I G Uthamaraj for the extension of their 15-day judicial remand, which expired on Wednesday. Chinna also said that the police tortured him.

At one stage, the prosecution objected to the recording of Kathiravan's statement, but the magistrate overruled the objection. After recording their submissions, the magistrate extended their remand till December 8.
