KASHMIR (Updated)
Today, 5 August 2019 has become a historic day in our history as something which could not be done in 70 years has taken shape now. Union Home minister Amit Shah has announced that Article 370 which grants special status to the state of Jammu and Kashmir will be scrapped. He also announced that Jammu and Kashmir will no longer be a state and it will be bifurcated into two Union Territories— Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.  read more...read more...
WITHERING AWAY OF CONGRESS PARTY
Is ours an ideal democracy!! Hardly so, it is far from being an ideal democracy; where there should be  two equal opponents, like Conservative and Labour party in Britain; like Republican and Democratic party in USA. As for India, for the two major parties here i.e. Congress and BJP there has never been a state of relative equilibrium. There was a time when Congress was all powerful for a long time, BJP had not come into existence then. BJP came into existence and gradually spread its wings and the status now of present election result on 23 May 2019 is that BJP alone bagged 303 seats and 353 seats along with its NDA Alliance. Congress on the other hand could muster only 52 seats; along with UPA, Congress got 91. Other parties won 98 seats. What to talk of equality, Congress party could not win even 55 seats which is the requisite 10 % to become the official opposition. read more...read more...

IS ANNA HAZARE MOVEMENT FIZZLING OUT?

Written on 5th January 2012

A thick pall of gloom seemed to have descended on the Anna Hazare movement when he had to decide to end his fast in Bombay because of ill health. The media even described it as being the result of poor response at the gathering in Bombay. It was very poor compared to huge crowds he had attracted in the Ramlila ground in Delhi. He was called a media creation and in the absence of good coverage by the media, his agitation in Bombay was said to have fizzled out.

Later came the news: Anna Hazare not to campaign in Assembly polls: Kiran Bedi -
Thursday, Jan 5, 2012, 12:38 IST Place: Pune | Agency: PTI
Anna Hazare will not campaign in the upcoming Assembly elections, including in Uttar Pradesh, as announced earlier owing to his poor health, his close aide Kiran Bedi said on Thursday. "Anna is not going to campaign in the states. Anna is not going to travel which we have urged him not to. Doctors are not allowing any more fast, any more exposure through travel at the moment," she told reporters here. She said Hazare's health is "really important" for them and he could not be exposed to sudden changes in temperature. Even if Hazare had been in good health and had campaigned in the five states going to elections in next few weeks would he have made any impact is anyone’s guess.

I had written in the piece:
INDIA'S INEFFECTUAL FIGHT AGAINST CORRUPTION - 13 June 2011, 8:09 PM
Nariman now remembered through Nariman point in Bombay had clearly said that the Congress party did not believe in idealism but was pragmatic politically........

It is the party which has ruled India longest that can corrupt institutions and perpetuate a system which is beyond repair. The Congress has ruled, as a single party, from 1947 to 1977, then from 1980 to 1989 and from 1991 to 1996 and then has been leading a coalition from 2004 till now (2011) and is in power.

Inevitably, since then (1938) till now the Congress party has evolved as: Mata of corruption, Pita of corruption, Bandhu of corruption, Sakha of corruption.

Other political parties of India have adopted this policy of the Congress party. To fight against this one has to be a Jai Prakash Narayan not a weak Ramdeo, who is vulnerable on many counts. Anna Hazare, a true Gandhian, is of course an effective tapasvi and is bound to achieve some success--only “some.” Why ? Because Indian politicians will never decide to commit suicide collectively. They have strong survival instincts and know how to destroy the checks and balances of the Indian constitution to save themselves. This is clearly visible in the horoscope of the Congress Party.”

=================================

The Lokepal farce at the end of December 2011 came six months after I wrote this piece and the fight against corruption has been most ineffectual so far.

What the future indications in the immediate future?

From the horoscope of the Congress Party now it appears again that it will make an attempt to get passed some sort of a washed down  Lokepal bill more as a political gimmick, a game politicians are well known to indulge in. Like the Sharda Act banning child marriages during British times, like the anti-dowry act and anti-corruption measures passed by the government, it will adorn the vast list of the statute book without becoming effective, even if the UPA succeeds in getting it passed. It will become a talking point, the awesome piece of garrulity which the English news channels in India are now known for.

This emerges out of the combined reading of the horoscopes of the Independence horoscope and the Congress party. Both are passing through the sub periods of the eleventh lords, showing some sort of legislation, a sop to silence critics like Anna Hazare, a ruse to create a loud talking point in a debate not altering our perception of uncontrolled corruption.

Post-Election Scenario
After faring better in the coming elections in northern Indian states, particularly UP which I have been predicting repeatedly, the Congress party will get enveloped in arrogant complacency. All political parties will feel happy, without saying so that Anna factor not working in these elections is big relief, not their triumph. As it is, at the age of seventy four, Anna does not have much stamina, health and time left to become something of a small Jaiprakash Narayan causing anything but small ripples.

But the demand, the clamour and the threat of some agitations of bringing back Indian money in foreign bank will not die down as the Hindu New Year horoscope with three planets along two-eight axis shows. On the brighter side, it does show some discovery of deposits of precious metals.

It is a difficult year still with Mars in the twelfth house and Saturn in the second, flanking the lagna. And both are malefics and both retrograde.

A secret plot against India, mainly of terrorists denoted by Mars here and afflicted ninth house with the ninth lord going into the eighth house, is ugly indication of communal issues coming to the foreground. The Naxalite movement, subdued at the moment after the killing of Kishenji, will reappear with renewed vigour is what can be concluded.

The same combination shows price rise.

So many new problems will obliterate from the public the Anna movement against corruption.

Anna Hazare movement has not fizzled out but it will now become, one of the many anaemic issues in our public debate.
