MODEL EXERCISE 1

Nakshatras    Model Exercise 1  Model Exercise 1B

Note : Step by step the difference how the representation in the north Indian horoscope is different from the south Indian one.

1. The Lagna or the ascendant or the rising sign is Karka. The lagna is calculated on the basis of the time of birth and will be explained later. In the north Indian chart the number of the rashi, number 4 has been mentioned.

The Lagna is shown at the top. In the south Indian chart no shifting has been been done.

2. The Sun is in Vrischika (number 8). In the north Indian chart it has been marked, not in the south Indian one.

3. The Moon is in Karka (number 4). In the north Indian chart it has been marked, not in the south Indian one.

4. Mars is in Kanya (number 6). In the north Indian chart it has been marked, not in the south Indian one.

5. Mercury is in Tula (number 7). In the north Indian chart it has been marked, not in the south Indian one.

6. Jupiter is in Dhanu (number 9). In the north Indian chart it has been marked, not in the south Indian one.

7. Venus is in Tula (number 7). In the north Indian chart it has been marked, not in the south Indian one.

8. Saturn is Simha (number 5). In the north Indian chart it has been marked, not in the south Indian one.

9. Rahu is in Mithuna (number 3). In the north Indian chart it has been marked, not in the south Indian one.

10. Ketu is in Dhanu (number 9). In the north Indian chart it has been marked, not in the south Indian one.

You shoud get used to both types of horoscopes but use one particular form intensely for your daily use, and later, for predictive purposes.

I use the south Indian. Then there is the Maithili, Oriya or the Bengali style (used in parts of the country, like Andhra also). The Maithili, Oriya or the Bengali style

Note : Here too the form is fixed like the south Indian horoscope.

Note : But the movement or direction is like the north Indian horoscope.

Special Note: I have deliberately mentioned two numbers, the first is the fixed number like 1 for Mesha, 2 for Vrisha etc. Then I have renumbured the house, starting with the Lagna as the first house. In this re-arranged scheme the counting is done thus:

                           1st         2nd       3rd     4th       5th       6th

From Mesha               1             2          3         4          5          6

From Lagna               10          11         12        1          2         3

                       7th        8th           9th       10th     11th       12th

From Mesha          7            8              9           10        11          12

From Lagna          4             5              6            7          8            9

Convert the following into North India Form

Note : In the north Indian form the lagna is not shown, as it has always to remain at the top centre. For instance, here the Lagna is Simha (number 5)
