KASHMIR (Updated)
Today, 5 August 2019 has become a historic day in our history as something which could not be done in 70 years has taken shape now. Union Home minister Amit Shah has announced that Article 370 which grants special status to the state of Jammu and Kashmir will be scrapped. He also announced that Jammu and Kashmir will no longer be a state and it will be bifurcated into two Union Territories— Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.  read more...read more...
WITHERING AWAY OF CONGRESS PARTY
Is ours an ideal democracy!! Hardly so, it is far from being an ideal democracy; where there should be  two equal opponents, like Conservative and Labour party in Britain; like Republican and Democratic party in USA. As for India, for the two major parties here i.e. Congress and BJP there has never been a state of relative equilibrium. There was a time when Congress was all powerful for a long time, BJP had not come into existence then. BJP came into existence and gradually spread its wings and the status now of present election result on 23 May 2019 is that BJP alone bagged 303 seats and 353 seats along with its NDA Alliance. Congress on the other hand could muster only 52 seats; along with UPA, Congress got 91. Other parties won 98 seats. What to talk of equality, Congress party could not win even 55 seats which is the requisite 10 % to become the official opposition. read more...read more...

COMPROMISE--- NO ONE WINS: ANNA WILL BREAK FAST

At the end of it all, it will have to be said that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh emerges with his shining statesman like speech and Pranab Mukherji for most mature handling of a  very delicate situation. A young speaker who won admiration and was heard with respect by MPs was Varun Gandhi whose speech was briefly reported by Rediff thus:

Live! Varun Gandhi: Lokpal will NOT gobble up politicians
August 27, 2011
......18:53 PM
Complete hush in Parliament as Varun speaks. Extremely eloquent, well thought
out and well worded...
......18:52 PM
Back to Varun in Parliament: The entire system is one of policing. It is clear from the people on the street that the system has failed us. Anna wants an independent ombudsman. Why should we think that an independent ombudsman will gobble us up!

......18:45 PM: Varun: It is our duty to reflect public opinion.
......
18:44 PM: Varun: We must protect the privileges of the people. It is the people that must govern and rule, may be not through referendum.

......18:44 PM: Varun: We must stand here and speak as servants of the people. Parliament has shown the tremendous respect it has towards the people. A churning has taken place. It is a revolution. It has forced our hand to react. The nation looks to us for a solution, not semantics.

......18:42 PM: Varun: All of us have been passive observers. This movement has made the youth aware that they can be active participants of change. A manufactured divide has been brought about between Parliament and the people that we represent, which sets a dangerous precedent.

.....18:37 PM: Varun Gandhi: It sits very heavy on my conscience that while we debate these issues, there is a 74 year old sitting quietly battling between life and death.

The issues are not whether the bill is a perfect piece of legislation. No one legislation cannot be perfect. In the chair, is Sumitra Mahajan. Why was there a compromise ? Recall this.

ANNA PREVAILS.......BUT?

Sachin
There can be a compromise before that.

Respected Sir,
I just came back from out side the Tihar Jail, which is just 3 K.M from my home, to get the first hand experience on what is called Indian upsurge against corruption.

Sachin’s prediction
Sachin was right about hospitalization but it is not forced but will be necessary to which no one will object.

SICKNESS AND ANNA'S HOSPITALISATION
19:00 PM  Anna weaker, to be hospitalised after fast ends: Dr Naresh Trehan says Anna has lost 7.5 kilos in the last 12 days and is
much weaker, but his condition is stable. His vital parameters will be monitored every hour and suggests that Anna should hospitalised the moment the fast ends.

At the end what has happened ?
It is like a cricket test match when both captains agree in the post lunch session on the last day that since no result was possible agree to a draw  with many overs yet to be bowled.

In the parliament
August 27, 2011 19:58 PM
Basically, the LS adjourns for the day with a sense of what the resolution says agreeing to Anna Hazare's demands.

....19:57 PM: That was Pranab Mukherjee reading out the provisions of the resolution. The voice vote has not taken place and the Lok Sabha has been adjourned. The three points... Lokayuktas in states, Citizens charter and Lower bureaucracy in Lokpal - part of Anna's demands were read out by Pranab.

......19:51 PM: Pranab: No need to withdraw the government's version of the bill. The Standing Committee is free to make changes in the government's Bill. Pranab gets emotional saying he could never be here if it wasn't for the contribution of the Constitution of India. "It is our responsibiltity to abide by it. Our democracy is powerful, strong and flexible enough to allow various schools of thought." Is it the beginning of a social revolution ?
====================================
At the end of it all the question to be asked is: is it the end of the agitation or the beginning of a social revolution paving way for some big reforms to follow as happened in nineteenth century England.

Go back to the Hindu New York horoscope of 2011 and see the Saturn-Jupiter opposition and again see the planetary position of 16 Nov 2011, again another Saturn-Jupiter opposition, see the continuation of this social revolution trying to achieve more tangible results than what has happened in August 2001.

There is social awareness now, a national awareness but not a change. All movements look like revolutions but the aftermath becomes a half anti-climax. Human nature does not change through an agitation. What is ingrained remains ingrained. I have seen the JP revolution and its aftermath.
