It has been customary at the end of an astrological debate, actually a quarrel (these days about Jaimini dashas) -- astrologers come away claiming victory. Starting with a Sanskrit shloka or sutra, a fatuous rhetorical war path, they end up abusing each other. I have seen it so often, astrologers using very offensive language and uttering arrant nonsense. They spout ill-informed academic poison. They cannot overcome their obsessions. Involved in such quarrels, you find yourself between a precipitous rock and a deep sea.

Sometime in 1983 or 1984 a young Sikh working in a bank came to me with a proposal for becoming the editor of an astrological magazine which he would start, he said, if I became its editor. With a sense of ecstatic triumph two persons both astrologers and my students, Anil Singh and Pammi Barthwal reacted today after seeing the results of the election of 2009 in India. They had reasons to be proud as last night (15 May) they had participated in a fifty minutes programme in the CNEB television channel in an astrological presentation of the likely results of the elections. Many charts were discussed and the conclusion was a very clear victory for the Congress.
Later today(16th) another very brilliant student pointed out that Mandook Dasha as I learnt from the written predictions of late Vemuri Ramamurthy Shastri (he called it Mandook dasha) was applicable to the horoscope of the Congress party I used and he proceeded to show how Congress party had to win so easily as the results show.
The horoscope of the Congress party I clarified to many that the horoscope of the Congress party I use alone is correct as Indira Gandhi had formed this after the defeat of her party in the 1977 elections. I have succeeded in every prediction on this except once.
Was it the BJP which wanted to take credit for introducing astrology or was it a gimmick? Then during the whole period of terrible controversy and the virulent and vicious attack on the decision to introduce astrology, not one single BJP leader gave a single statement in favour of astrology.
I saw the truth---their desire to self promote themselves as champions of Hindutva without actually doing anything showed the truth as nothing ever would have!! I am positively interested in those aspects of our heritage which are super scientific, like astrology and ayurveda, yoga etc without bringing in any politics in it. Here are a bunch of leaders who are not even interested in these! What was the result ?
I lost interest in mundane astrology and missed a vital point in the horoscope of BJP in 2004 to see clearly its defeat. I apologized for this mistake and wrote out a full article giving it the title “The Worst Prediction of my life”.
In the election of 2009 I clearly saw the bad performance of BJP and I told Varun Gandhi who conveyed it, as he told me, to Sri L.K.Advani.
It is what I wrote in the opening paragraph “Some months ago a political leader asked me (KNR) what I thought would be the results of the election of 2009 I told him privately and asked him not to quote it but he has revealed it to a very important political leader, he told me.” (INDIAN ELECTION SCENE 2009 14 April 2009, 12:19 PM KN RAO & SHANKAR HEGDE )
The Hindustan Times carried the predictions of some astrologers thus:

Even the stars are split wide open. If pollsters predict no clear majority in the Lok Sabha polls, astrologers are no different. If one soothsayer foresees an eruption of violence during the polls, another thinks to the contrary. Militancy could rock the country between April 22 and June 22, says 86-year-old astrologer Lachhman Das Madan. But Ashutosh Ojha (66) has the opposite take: “there may be isolated incidents, but no major threat”.
Both psephologists and astrologers are offering more analysis than prediction.
“We are in the midst of the most vulgar show of piety, lies, bluffs, false assurances, mean opportunism,” says K.N. Rao (78) on his site. The prediction: “UPA will form the government with regional parties or the Third Front will triumph with Congress support.”
Madan predicts the NDA will form the government. “In BJP’s horoscope, Venus is helping the party,” he says. Ojha gives the NDA 222 seats, Congress 140 and BSP 23.
Ajai Bhambi (57) foresees a hung verdict. “Advani or Manmohan may not be PM, Sonia will get a jolt. Maya will create fear for others.”
Madan and Bhambi say Sharad Pawar will emerge stronger. No consensus! The stars hide more than they tell.”
That is the world we live in---it is a world which worships only success. Those who have seen the horoscopes of Shri Advaniji and Joshiji should know why under their leadership BJP cannot prosper.This is what I said in the television programme yesterday and today the results show a frustrated Advani resigning and Murli Manohar Joshi calling it the defeat not of the BJP but of Advani !

2004 prediction
Further I clarified that in 2004 I missed correct prediction as I was more anxiously waiting for the Supreme Court judgment after such terrible frustration with scoundrels of astrologers who had promised to become public litigants and let me down. My greater frustration was with the Human Resources Ministry and the University Grants Commission under Murli Manohar Joshi who had not even instructed them to prepare to defend astrology by taking the help of astrologers lot of whom are available in Delhi. People rang me up and asked me if I was risking my reputation again now in 2009. I told them that I would not go wrong. They did not believe me and now they are congratulating.That is the world we live in---it is a world which worships only success.
